Network Systems Engineer

Our client seeks a Network Systems Engineer to join their team.  
   
Role Profile: The successful candidate will help to design, manage, monitor and support the global network and associated platforms. Key Responsibilities:
  • Configuring, monitoring and managing networking equipment, systems and servers distributed in datacentres worldwide
  • Identifying, investigating, troubleshooting and resolving anomalies and faults
  • Contributing to the evolution and expansion of network - strategy, design, planning and implementation
  • Participation in out-of-hours on-call rota to respond to critical incidents, faults or alarms
  • Collaborating with customers, suppliers and partners to undertake integration, perform maintenance and to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Dealing with technical support issues escalated from the operations team
 
Key Skills & Experience:
  • Practical commercial experience of networking, IP routing (BGP, OSPF), switching/VLANs, VPNs, high-availability principles, georedundancy
  • Good understanding of security principles and best practices
  • Hands-on experience of working with Cisco routers (ideally IOS-XE), Cisco Nexus switches, server and storage hardware
  • Practical commercial experience of managing Linux servers (ideally Ubuntu), virtualization (ideally Proxmox), containerisation (Kubernetes and Docker)
  • Experience of managing databases (ideally Postgres, MongoDB)
  • Experience of event streaming (Apache Kafka) would also be beneficial
  • Familiarity with observability platforms such as (such as Grafana, Zabbix, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry/SigNoz)
  • Experience of mobile telecoms principles and platforms would be advantageous but is not mandatory (such as EPC, DIAMETER/SS7 signalling, GTP and platforms such as HLR/HSS, PGW, OCS, OSS/BSS)
  • Technically inquisitive but pragmatic and delivery-focussed
  • Fastidious, vigilant and thorough when working with critical production platforms
  • Enjoys learning, thrives on embracing new technologies and platforms
  • Able and willing to explain and document solutions and concepts, as well as design and build them
  • Methodical and organised and capable of managing competing demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player, good communicator, and able to collaborate across departments and geographies
